Shuhei Nakamura lives with round-the-clock support of an artificial respirator, due to Werdnig-Hoffmann Disease, which atrophies muscles gradually. He is hardly able to move his body, so he goes to school on a stretcher. But his disease does not stop him from doing what he loves… painting. Moving a computer trackball with his left foot, he paints with energetic colors like orange and yellow.Shuhei started painting in the 2nd grade, when he was still able to move his hands. When he lost movement in his hands in 7th grade, he didn’t let that stop him. He practiced using a mouse with his left foot to bring his artwork to life. As a result of his dedication, he has won many awards for his paintings. His 2005 exhibition inspired many people in various fields.
Shuhei’s favorite subject is Mt. Fuji, along with his fictional creature called “Bagora,” inspired by Gozilla. “I would love to direct a special effect movie featuring Bagora,” says Shuhei determinedly. Amway continues to bring dreams, hope, and courage to many children who are in need.
