Smiley Children
The "Amway Smiley Children – Mental Health Enhancement Project" is dedicated to children and adolescents from underserved families who suffer from emotional stress, low resilience to adversity and even anxiety or depression in Hong Kong. The program aims to help these children cope with stress and manage their emotions, while encouraging them to develop a positive attitude, to appreciate and leverage their own strengths to face adversities.
The program highlights the importance of social exposure of the children and families, as well as the relationship between the children and their parents. A series of activities, including interest development classes, outing and exposure programs, and mentor relationships are used to enhance social and emotional development of the youngsters.
The program emphasizes community awareness and concern about the mental health of the next generation and the importance of mental health for the development of the society. Amway organizes Mental Health Promotion and Prevention Seminars, and provides research and publications to help promote public understanding and support for children.
A total of 100 families and their children will be directly aided from the two-year program, helping them to gain positive experiences and build an optimistic attitude towards life. The program is also targeted to reach 4,280 children and family participants in Hong Kong who are suffering from psychological and emotional challenges to nurture a healthy environment for children.
A kickoff ceremony and fun fair was held on November 1, 2008 and received tremendous support from local government officials and the public - attracting over 1,053 participants.
