Back to School with UNICEF

The words “back to school” might not be a child’s favorite phrase during summer vacation, but for some children in developing countries the words have a deeper meaning. The Czech Committee of UNICEF planned this charity event around the back to school theme to draw attention to the fact that in many countries, school attendance is neither compulsory nor commonplace.

Education is the key to solving many of the world’s more difficult problems. We are pleased to report that Amway CR participated as a sponsor of this event organized to raise funds to ensure that children everywhere have access to education. The event featured a children’s choir, an exhibition of celebrity report cards from their school days, and the highlight – a friendly game of basketball with one of the Czech Republic’s best players, American NBA player Jirí Welsch. An exhibition free-throw contest and auction of basketball souvenirs raised additional funds, enough to allow one hundred children in developing countries to attend school.

Diamond distributors Jana and Uwe Vladarz, champions of Amway CR’s UNICEF partnership, were honorary guests of the Czech Committee of UNICEF at a VIP sponsor reception and watched the event from the stands of Sazka Arena with their children.
