'Every child deserves to ride a bike'
Talia is 13 years old and lives in Ulladulla, NSW, she has both intellectual and physical disabilities. Talia is the happy recipient of a Freedom Wheels bike, the cost of which was reduced due to the wonderful support of Amway Australia and distributors.
Talia really enjoys swimming and the bike has now provided another activity for her to enjoy with her family. The bike is also a fantastic way to increase the strength in her legs. The bike has had many modifications to enable her to stay on and upright, for example the velcro to keep her feet on the foot plates, hip support and a handle to pull her along, which also has a brake, for the support person to use.
Talia is currently recovering from a hip reconstruction after having a successful one done 2 years ago. She looks forward to getting back on her new bike.
Amway Australia has partnered with the charity Technical Aid to the Disabled (TAD) to launch the Freedom Wheels Modified Bike Service. The program modifies standard pushbikes to help children with disabilities ride a bike for the first time. For information, visit www.amway.com.au see Amway in the community.
